1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale

History

Completed on 30^th January 1964 and sold to Chipstead Motors Ltd, London, one of 25 examples converted by Ruddspeed when new

Concours restoration in 2012 by marques specialists DTR European Sportscars

Stripped to bare shell and soft media blasted with garnet and glass and the bare shell phosphate coated

Floors completely replaced with new inner and outer sills. New hand built inner and outer rear wings, rear valance and front wings crafted and fitted, 700 hours spent on fabrication, preparation and paintwork

Painted in its original Alfa Romeo Rosso Corsa (501) – Shell rustproofed after having 3M rubberized floor coating. Five coats of primer used and three top coats, inside, outside and underneath

Engine stripped and bottom end balanced and lightened with new clutch, fully line bored, all bottom end bearings replaced and crankshaft reground. Liners rebored and uprated pistons fitted, all valve seats replaced and new valves fitted to skimmed cylinder head, carburetors and all ancillaries fully rebuilt

Transmission overhauled with rebuilt and balanced propshaft, rear axle stripped and rebuilt. Brake calipers rebuilt with master cylinder and all pipework replaced with copper/nickel piping

Suspension fully rebuilt and rebushed with Koni shocks. All chrome work repaired and replated as necessary

Original wheels shot blasted, painted and baked in correct silver including the spare. Wiring loom replaced with an uprated unit and all electrical items replaced or rebuilt

Carpets handmade in Wilton beige with rubber backing and sound deadening. Interior re-trimmed in Connolly leather. Original glass polished and seals replaced.

1300 Hours in total spent on the restoration resulting in an outstanding example
