This exquisite Lynx XKSS was one of nine cars constructed by the Sussex based Jaguar exponents and was originally built to order for Dick Skipworth, renowned Jaguar collector and former owner of the Ecurie Ecosse collection
During a recent interview with foremost Jaguar expert Chris Keith-Lucas (one of the founding members of Lynx and CKL Developments) Chris explained this car was constructed to the same specification as Steve McQueen’s original Jaguar XKSS, affectionately known as ‘The Green Rat’, that he and Lynx had restored in 1986, approximately one year prior to the construction of this car. As such this car was finished in British Racing Green with a mid-green leather interior which it retains today
The Lynx was sold to second owner Gary Bartlett, another noted collector, who requested the fitment of a 3.8L engine with dry sump lubrication, as per the original XKSS, most of the Lynx cars being fitted with later spec 4.2L wet sump engines
The car was subsequently exported to the United States and remained with Bartlett until being sold to motoring enthusiast and Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage of Los Angeles, a copy of the previous US title with his name listed is included within the file
The FIVA passport shows two further US based collector owners following Cage’s custodianship, East Coast based Herb Wetanson and Thomas Knudsen prior to its repatriation to the UK in early 2010s
The Lynx was carefully detailed with some light body restoration by leading restorer Thorney Kelham upon its return to the UK with the brief to maintain as much patina as possible before it was acquired by Chris Evans in 2014 who kept the car for twelve months until it joined our vendors private collection in 2015
Maintained by leading Jaguar experts CKL Developments throughout over the past decade, this magnificent Jaguar has recently been serviced and tuned by CKL under the watchful eye of Chris Keith-Lucas
Supplied with UK V5, CKL service invoices and FIVA Passport, this particular XKSS is arguably the most significant of the nine cars as it remains highly original with period correct engine configuration and boats a star-studded up of former ‘collector’ owners
