History

This 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS Touring – First 500 was sold in conjunction with our friends at Autosport Designs Inc, NY, USA

Original ‘first 500’ example finished in Grand Prix White with Blue Script

First imported into the UK in April 1997, the RS was owned at the time by the late Jeremy Lloyd OBE, motoring enthusiast and screenwriter by trade, Lloyd owned several Rolls Royces, Lotus and other sports cars including this RS

Following its sale in the UK and two subsequent owners, the RS was later exported to Europe in 2007 and granted FIA papers confirming its eligibility for historic events, fitted with a conforming roll bar and limited slip differential at that time

In 2011 the RS benefitted from a comprehensive restoration by leading Swiss Porsche specialist Marc de Siebenthal, finished in ‘Lightweight’ specification and was later the subject of a multi page article in a prominent UK based Porsche magazine

Following its sale at auction, further restoration work was undertaken in 2014 on behalf of its new UK based owner with marque specialists Autofarm at a cost of GBP 40,000 with the brief to return the car to its correct and original Touring specification. Sold promptly following completion of the works by me when I worked for leading dealer Fiskens, the RS formed part of a world-class car collection based in Hong Kong for the next eight years

The vendor acquired the RS in 2022 and it was repatriated to the UK, passing through the workshops of DK Engineering for an annual service and brake overhaul. In July 2023 an oil leak resulted in an engine-out, top end rebuild and reseal with marque specialists Autofarm totaling £16,600 and the most recent annual service was carried out by Autofarm in October 2024

Offered today in superb order, the history file for the 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS Touring – First 500 is comprehensive and includes a photographic record of its restoration and a recent report of its history by leading 911 RS specialist, Andy Prill. Like many RS of this vintage that were campaigned, at some point in the cars competitive life the original crankcases have been replaced with correct type 3R engine cases

This iconic Porsche represents an excellent opportunity to obtain one of the most desirable air cooled models, an original first 500 example that remains true to its original factory specification that has been fully restored and maintained by the most well known and respected Porsche marque specialists in the business
