1998 BMW M Roadster

The BMW Z3 was launched in 1995 and was the first BMW to be manufactured outside of Germany with production based from BMW’s plant in South Carolina, USA. The sleek two-seater bodywork was penned by Joji Nagashima and development had begun four years earlier in 1991 led by Burkhard Göschel

The model was an instant success and featured extensively in the 1995 Eon productions James Bond film ‘Goldeneye’. BMW offered a range of engines starting with the 1700cc four cylinder base model through to final the 3000cc six cylinder 228bhp variant introduced in 2000 until end of Z3 production in 2003

Naturally BMW Motorsport were tasked with creating a high performance version of the Z3, known as ‘M Roadster’, this flagship model was powered by the M Division’s superb ‘S50’ six-cylinder engine, as fitted in the M3 Evolution, producing 321bhp mated to a five speed manual gearbox, resulting in outstanding high performance sports car  with handling to match thanks to extensive revisions of the brakes, suspension and wheels

BMW also offered a closed version in the form of the ‘M Coupe’ and the final two years of production saw the S50 replaced with their revised S54 motor. The UK received just 997 examples right hand drive M Roadster models in total and they remain one of the stand out sports cars of the nineties

Our car was supplied new via Dunedin Motor Co Ltd on 30^th September 1998 and finished in Estoril blue coachwork with two tone Estoril blue/black nappa leather hides, dark blue electric hood, BMW Business stereo, air conditioning, roll over protection, CD changer, battery switch and Thatcham category one immobiliser

This exceptional example has covered just 28,540 miles from new and is supported with full BMW main agent service history within the original service book by Dunedin, Peter Vardy, Cooper Reading, Williams Rochdale and John Clark

Without doubt one of the most well preserved and original low mileage RHD examples extant, this car has recently benefitted from extensive professional detailing to the bodywork and full underbody detail and protection in addition to the fitment of new brake lines and hoses all round plus an annual oil service

Supplied with complete original owner’s book pack, two sets of keys, rare tonneau cover, original tool kit, comprehensive history file with complete MoT history, this magnificent ‘M Roadster’ has been cherished throughout its life and is one of the very best examples available today
