History
Despatched from the works at Haydn Road on the 20th February 1928 to Mr F.P.Dickson, a loyal client of Brough Superior and close friend and riding partner of George Brough himself!
‘TO’ competed in the ‘London-Lands End Trial’ in 1928 as part of the Brough Superior works team and achieved a gold medal riding solo, which is documented in an article from ‘The MotorCycle’ on 26th April 1928 (copy retained on file)
‘TO’ was returned to the works and later re-sold on the 11th April 1930 to Mr Latham who kept the machine for three years before it was sold again by the works on 15th March 1933 to Mr A.E.Hall
Purchased by Mr T Childs in 1965 and acquired by Dave Shires in 1968 who restored it and went on to win the ‘Baragwanath Cup’ for the best JAP SS100 at the 1972 Brough Superior Annual Club Rally
Sold by Mr Shires in 1975 to club member Richard Gulvin who won the ‘Baragwanath Cup’ with it again in 1977
Gulvin retained the SS100 for a further thirty-four years before it was acquired by respected Brough Superior collector Dr Hugh Palmer in 2009, who subsequently commissioned a full restoration in 2011/12 by marque exponent Simon Miles. Following the restoration, the machine was put through its paces in an extensive road test article within Classic Bike magazine in July 2012
Without question one of the most correct, well-known and well documented Alpine Grand Sport SS100 models, complete with exceptional period competition history, supported by photo’s of the bike at the 1928 Lands End Trial and 1929 Brough Superior Rally held at Chipping Norton
